DATE | Jan. 2021 – Feb. 2021

LOCATION | Voyage Repair

Overview

A leading ship management company approached CTS to modify their container ship’s main engine and scrubber uptakes to ensure compliance with commercial air draft requirements. However, the vessel could not be stopped to carry out the repairs as this would require the vessel to be off hired; this presented a challenge as the project involved heavy equipment to be lifted and all work to be executed at sea in harsh weather conditions. However, CTS quickly devised a plan of action to guarantee that the work was completed safely and efficiently.

Scope of Works

CTS provided a team of experienced riggers, fitters, and certified welders to carry out the modification works on the ship’s two funnel uptakes. All work was executed at height and required a safe staging framework to access the work area. Our team implemented electric chain hoists and fabricated custom frames to assist in lifting the heavy equipment. The CTS team also constructed a temporary shelter to cover the work area and protect the crew and equipment from the weather.

Result

The team carried out the modifications as per the owner’s and Class requirements while ensuring HSEQ standards were met throughout the process. CTS’s vast experience working in harsh environments in-situ enabled our team to overcome the challenges faced on board. By streamlining all work processes, CTS ensured
that the project was successfully completed on schedule.

Client Feedback

“Excellent work and high safety standards demonstrated by the team. We couldn’t have asked for a more professional team. Well done. ”

The ship management company contracted CTS to provide riding teams to carry out the in-situ steelwork onboard one of their crude oil tankers. The vessel’s Panama chocks and bow chain stopper were in need of an upgrade. Avoidance of downtime was crucial for the vessel owners; therefore, CTS developed a plan that would allow for the vessel to continue operations while ensuring an efficient installation. CTS deployed two skilled welding and steel fitting experts to commence work onboard in Greece.

Scope of Works

• Washing & surface preparation.
• Assembly of lifting equipment to the deck.
• Installation & welding of 250T Panama chock & chain stopper.
• Non-destructive testing.

Overview

A highly skilled team of 38 specialists were selected to complete a series of projects for Columbia Cruise Services’ passenger vessel. Columbia Cruise Services had a wide range of work requests, therefore CTS prepared an extensive strategy in order to complete all the project tasks on time and to ensure that everything suited their needs. The team consisted of naval architects, class approved welders, electricians and tank cleaners. The CTS team spent a total of 23 days on board the dry-docked ship.

Scope of Works

  • Turnkey installation of Alfa Laval 3.1 Compact Flex BWTS including scanning, design and engineering works
  • Fuel oil tank cleaning
  • Funnel reinstatement
  • Low-level location lighting replaced for all passenger and crew areas

The project was completed successfully and on schedule despite the constraints of working within the confined space of the vessel and the lack of drawings available. The team also experienced a challenge when it came to integrating the ballast water treatment plant with the on-board automation system. However, through thorough planning and strong communication between parties, the job was finished with outstanding craftsmanship and exceeded the client’s expectations.

Client Feedback

“Excellent job. The crew was disciplined, professional and ensured that all the jobs were completed on time and up to standard. Quality work, we would recommend CTS Offshore and Marine for future projects.”

DATE | Oct 2018 – Feb 2019 (hook-up completed)

Overview

The BorWin gamma topside has been successfully welded to its jacket by CTS Teams, a location 130km off the German shore, deep in the North Sea. This key milestone marks completion of a critical hook-up phase during the massive offshore project that will deliver enough clean energy over one million homes via the German national grid.

Constructed between 2014 and 2018 at DryDocks World in Dubai, and commanding half of its capacity, this 900MW HVDC converter platform began its voyage to where it would be united with its jacket, already installed 40m’s deep. During its journey the megastructure battled treacherous weather conditions and was delayed despite its impressive size and construction as the sophisticated equipment and technology housed within the chassis demanded proper protection.

Upon arrival, the BorWin gamma topside was installed utilising dynamic float-over methodology, a first for the method in the North Sea. Weighing a monumental 18,000 tonnes and heavier than Big Ben, the 6 legs were intelligently placed over the jacket’s main piles, commencing our vigilant hook up activities to secure the topside to its substructure.

This critical and complex phase carried out by CTS teams was completed to exacting standards and to schedule while adhering to a multitude of HSEQ regulations, braving the winter in North Sea and safely fulfilling the contract with zero lost time injuries, a standard we maintain across all our projects.

Project Gallery

Result

Set to convert AC from offshore windfarms to DC and transmitted by a 160km long cable for the German national grid, this pioneering project will set the tone for future constructions and importantly, pushes the needle closer to a world powered by clean energy.

Feedback

“This marks a momentous milestone for the project in its endeavour to provide a huge population with renewable energy, we are proud to be part of this project and have successfully executed the critical hook-up phase.”

Overview

Contracted by Leading Oil Major for Company’s 216,000m3 LNG Vessel, we deployed a team of IRATA certified technicians to conduct cosmetic maintenance and repairs on aloft areas, accommodation and engine casing bulkheads.

CTS completed works without disruption to the vessel, meaning no downtime and no lost earning days. Vital for ships that adhere to strict schedules. All rope access gear, PPE and all blasting and painting equipment was supplied by CTS.

Scope of Works

High pressure (1000 bar) water blasting of affected areas, removal of flakes and other contaminants and de-rusting.

Carry out power tooling in affected areas for spot descaling and remove the cracking and flaking paint back to the primer. Feather the edges of the intact paint and then abrade the remaining areas.

Low pressure freshwater wash in delicate areas.

Spot paint touch up two tooling regions and one stripe coat. Stripe coat primer on descaled areas. Apply topcoats.

Result

We thoroughly blasted and coated an area totalling over 2500m2, more than initially estimated, however, undeterred by this we set about delivering the solution to the client within the given timeframe to not impede normal operations.

From start to finish the project was completed to high industry standards and so in keeping with our first-rate quality work.

With full support from the technical superintendent and vessel crew, we were able to complete the job in time, safely and with prolific result.

Client Feedback

The clients were pleased with the result and have awarded CTS with a contract for their on-going fabric maintenance needs for their vessels operating in the Singapore/UAE region.

“The quality of work was excellent and conducted to schedule.

Furthermore, we would not hesitate in recommending Blasting and Coating services from CTS to others.”

Project Brief

In August, CTS was approached by a long-term client to examine and repair the bottom area of its vessel’s number one water ballast tank and forepeak tank – all within a complete turnaround of 35 days.

Our team executed the following:

  • Replacing six main frames partially on the bottom, and to add inserts to three of the secondary frames on the port-side
  • Replacing three main frames partially on the bottom on the starboard-side
  • Renewing 27 tonnes of steel in the ballast tank and forepeak tank

Scope of Work

The work took place in-situ with the vessel to minimise the ship’s downtime and to ensure a swift response from our technicians, who were able to conduct a thorough survey of the work that needed to be carried out and advise and work accordingly.

As ballast still remained in the tanks, the hot work inside the forepeak was carefully planned. Once the ballast water had been discharged, the hot work was able to commence inside the forepeak.

Project Gallery

Results

The total personnel involved in this project: eight.

This reflects the realities of in-situ, afloat services onboard: by providing fully trained and skilful welders, CTS eliminated the vessel’s downtime, whilst maintaining the highest level of safety standards within the industry.
